Softywax Soft Wax Crayons

Round wax crayons which come in a wide range of bright and luminous colours. Ideal for psychomotricity development and experience drawing. They are excellent for all ages, but specially indicated for small children due to their shape and soft texture.

They have a very good coverage and can be used on different surfaces: matt paper, card and cardboard, as well as on wood and rough surfaces. They are odour free, easy to paint with and have a very high performance due to the fact that the whole crayon consists of lead.

1. Shading technique

Shading is achieved by working from lighter to darker colour tones. Coloured areas are created by drawing lines very close together, or lines drawn one on top of the other. You should start with very mild pressure and increase the pressure on each layer to achieve a stronger tone.

2. Crosshatching technique

Different colour values and nuances are achieved by drawing lines, one on top of the other, in a crisscross pattern. The crosshatching pattern should be thicker where darker shades are required.

3. Wax sgraffito

You work on top of a motif drawn in light colours using the shading technique, or over a layer of different coloured lines drawn in wax crayon. Then, cover the entire drawing with a layer of dark-coloured wax crayon. With a burin or pointed modelling tool, scratch away lines to reveal the hidden colours underneath.

4. Soap sgraffito

This process is exactly the same as the wax sgraffito technique, except that instead of covering the base layer of colours with wax crayon you use a mixture of liquid tempera and liquid soap (approximately three parts tempera to one part soap). When the tempera has dried, scratch the designs you want in order to reveal the layer of colours underneath.

5. Shavings

The shavings left over from sharpening Jovi Wax Crayons can be sorted into colours and used to make mosaic-type compositions. Spread PVA glue over the area of the drawing to be “coloured in” and sprinkle the shavings of the chosen colour on top of it. Once the glue has dried, shake off any loose pieces of wax.

  • Wash by hand.
  • Soak in water and liquid soap for around 4 hours.
  • Then wash with liquid soap.
  • Do not initially scrub.
  • Warning! Washing incorrectly could set the stain into the fibres.
  • Washing garments in the washing machine can leave ingrained traces that are much more difficult to remove.
  • Never put a stained garment in the dryer because afterwards it could be impossible to remove the stain.
  • Normal washing in the washing machine should not leave stains, but if you think the garment could be problematic, we suggest you wash it by hand.
