The Beginning
José Salvador and Vicente Tejedo, two young friends from the Guinardó neighborhood in Barcelona, decide to create their own company for children's educational products.
In a small attic, they create their first products: a profiling pencil and a hexagonal lead for school use.
They combine the first letters of their names (JOsé and VIcente) and launch a brand that children and adults around the world know today.

The first product developed was the LÁPIZ-HITO, which in its first version was a hexagonal lead wrapped in a paper label, the famous LÁPIZ-MINA.

JOVI moves from the family attic to its first headquarters in Barcelona, with workshops, laboratory and offices.
There, José and Vicente abandon manual manufacturing and invent their own machine to speed up processes.
José Salvador devises new, more advanced methods and innovates to create new products.
Vicente Tejedo exploits his commercial skills.

Consolidation
The company consolidates in the writing segment, with pens and mechanical pencils from highly successful brands such as FIBRO-PLAST, SUPER-LINE and the most popular MILECHENTO.

International
JOVI is already present in Argentina, Mexico, Panama, Venezuela and Portugal, starting a path of exports that it would never abandon. In a few years it expands its factory to grow in production.

The mythical PLASTICERUM formula is achieved, generating JOVI-PLAST modeling clay, whose fame and quality has reached our days. That same year, export activities begin.

A fire destroys JOVI's factory. The company decides to build the current plant in Rubí, covering 6,000 m2, with the latest technology and the best research equipment of the time.

Future
Vicente Tejedo passes away and, three years later, José Salvador. The two founders left the management of the company in the hands of their children, who then bet on the development of new product ranges: paints, waxes, modeling pastes and children's makeup.
1991
Growth
JOVI inaugurates the new commercial, administrative and logistics headquarters in El Prat de Llobregat, with an area of 5,500 m2 and capacity for more than 5,000 pallets. The company continues with the process of growth and professionalization.

The company grows in foreign markets and already exports 30% of its production to more than 80 countries around the world.

JOVI creates PLASTILINA BABY, the first modeling paste on the market for young children, soft, gluten-free and that doesn't dry out.

JOVI turns 85 at a time of brand consolidation with a new young and innovative image, adapted to market needs and trends.
On the occasion of the company's 85th anniversary, a creative street event was organized in Rubí, its city. An experience open to everyone in which more than 170 people of all ages participated. Participants spontaneously approached to color the canvas installed in the town, revealing an original drawing created through the numerical pixel system and color assignment.
